A double lumen catheter has two independent internal channels, allowing two simultaneous functions such as fluid infusion and blood withdrawal. A triple lumen catheter has three channels, enabling a third concurrent function such as pressure monitoring or additional medication administration. Triple lumen catheters are common in ICU settings. Both require precise air pressure control during extrusion to maintain dimensional accuracy.
