MicroAir Regulator for Bump Tubing Extrusion

Air pressure in plastic tubing extrusion is typically measured in inches of water column for ultra-low ranges (e.g., 0–3" or 0–30" of water) or in PSI for slightly higher ranges (e.g., 0–3 psi or 0–5 psi). OLC MicroAir regulators cover all standard extrusion pressure ranges and can regulate below 1 inch of water with high accuracy.

A MicroAir Regulator is an ultra-low air pressure controller that supplies precisely regulated internal air pressure to extruded plastic tubing. It balances output pressure against a low-tension spring or uses a precision voice-coil motor to maintain a stable set point, venting surplus air to ensure consistent tubing outside diameter during the extrusion process.

The MicroAir IV series (Single Channel MAIV, Dual Channel DMAIV, MultiAir 3-channel MU3MAIV, and MultiAir 4-channel MU4MAIV) are specifically designed for bump and taper tubing. They accept 0–10V analog input for PLC control and respond in less than 0.1 second (typically 20 msec), enabling the high-speed pressure switching that bump tubing profiles require.

MicroAir I models use manual 30-turn knob control with a standard response time of approximately 2 minutes to full scale, ideal for steady-state pressure applications. MicroAir IV models feature a precision voice-coil linear motor with 0–10V analog or PLC input and a response time under 0.1 second, making them suited for dynamic applications like bump and taper tubing extrusion.

The number of channels required equals the number of lumens in your tubing. OLC offers dual-channel (2 lumens), 3-channel (3 lumens), and 4-channel (4 lumens) MicroAir regulators. Each channel maintains its own independent pressure set point, pressure range, and optional digital display, allowing precise individual control over every lumen in the extruded tube.

OLC MicroAir regulators are available in three control interface types: manual only via a 30-turn precision knob (Series I), contact closure input from a diameter gauge or external controller (Series II), and 0–10V analog input compatible with PLCs or other automation devices (Series IV). Some models combine manual and contact closure control for maximum flexibility.
